Built to Serve, Episode 25 - Safe Space Organization & Breaking Stalking

from WCNY Community FM · host WCNY Community FM

This edition of Built to Serve highlights two local organizations working together toward common goals. Safe Space Organization strives to change the conversation around mental health by educating, connecting, and supporting others through a peer-to-peer network. Founder Tracy Dando Mergler talks with host Major Charles Roberts about how Safe Space is a community hub with therapeutic alternatives and prevention methodology, empowering individuals to self-manage their mental health by accessing community resources, providing a space, and empowering the process of healing. In August, Safe Space is partnering with Stefania Ianno of Breaking Stalking to provide a survivors of stalking support group. Stefania started Breaking Stalking because she was a victim of stalking 12 years ago and found there was a lack of widespread, accessible resources and support for those victims. She tells Charles there are many misconceptions around stalking, contributing to the general public not understanding, recognizing or reporting the crime.  She actively campaigns for more awareness and education.
