David (Davy) Crockett - Life and Times Inception Point Ai David Crockett (1786-1836) was an American frontiersman, soldier, politician, and folk hero. He is best known for his role in the Texas Revolution and his death at the Battle of the Alamo.Crockett was born in Tennessee and grew up on the frontier. He was a skilled hunter and woodsman, and he quickly became known for his bravery and his ability to survive in the wilderness.In 1813, Crockett joined the Tennessee militia and fought in the Creek War. He served with distinction and was promoted to colonel.After the war, Crockett entered politics. He was elected to the Tennessee state legislature in 1821 and to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1827.In Congress, Crockett was a vocal critic of President Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy. He also supported the rights of settlers on the frontier.In 1835, Crockett joined a group of volunteers who traveled to Texas to fight for independence from Mexico.
