Bullying, Social Media, and Being Comfortable in Your Own Skin with Ena Mazzilli

This week on Conversations with Nick Thompson, we're featuring Ena Mazzilli, an anti-bullying activist who is doing a lot of great things in the world.  Since the rise of the internet, bullying feels like it's only getting worse. Children are being bullied at school as they always have, but now, social media has allowed it to follow them into everyday life. Bullying is going on in school, work, culture, and social media at a level it never has been before.   Ena reached out to me when Love Is Blind aired and told me a bit about her brand BeYouByElla. Ena started BeYouByElla at the start of her journey recovering from her own experiences, and did it as a way to prepare her children for any bullying they may face on their own. Growing up, Ena had been bullied for her skin color, her hair, her language, and being from Egypt. By 10 years old, she felt very uncomfortable in her own skin. As she continued down life's path, she still found herself facing bullying in the workplace. It took years and a lot of work for her to become comfortable in her own skin.   I invited Ena onto the show because I wanted her to share her own personal story about surviving bullying. Growing up, I was bullied a lot for a lot of different reasons: poverty, being bad at sports, being introverted, and much more. Being in the spotlight since Love Is Blind aired, I have been the subject of a lot of attacks online and in the media. Having been bullied, Ena's story resonated with me even more.    I think it's important to have these conversations, as they are the best tool we have for combatting this toxic trend.
