In the dead of night as people sleep that is when the spirits creep as the bell tolls three dark things take power We like to call it the supernatural Hey, welcome to the supernatural hour. This is your host Raven. This is Chad. Yeah, don't you have it?
We're a little sparse today. Yeah, not had to work Drake actually had to get he had to work today a little unexpectedly and if I remember right Jess is doing some Some show some I saw her post on Facebook. She's doing some event. Oh, yeah.
Yeah, she is always busy Yeah, so she hasn't quit she just hasn't been able to line up her schedule with podcasting And I know I know some podcasts, you know record real regularly Because docs and it's not doxful, but because docs got such a crazy crazy schedule. We can't run a little bit So anyway, we miss them. They will be back All right for the business brought to you by Castle Photo Art go to Castle for you all of your photo needs So we have a couple of upcoming events in the works be looking for those We'll be getting those up on the website soon. We also have a number of library events and other events and Raven.
Can you share some of that information? Yes, yes, I'm pointing it up If you want me to give it to you memorize you're gonna be places all by yourself because I'll give you the wrong date sometimes It's the busy season. It is a very busy season So on October 6th, we will be at the Chapman Library that is at 577 south 900 west and Salt Lake I'm not sure of the time I believe we've been starting in the past at 7th But if you look on our website as soon as I confirm the time it will be on there If that is not a date you can go to don't worry We will be at the American Fork Library on the 19th of October again time to be determined I believe it's at 7, but it might be an 8th So just check that if those two dates don't work for you on October 23rd We will be at the Springville Library. It will start at 7.
I do have a confirmation on that time and that kind of gets you through Oh, we will be at the Teenage on October 28th. Yeah, that's gonna be a good one Yes, and then there's the Indian Hills Horror coming up in October just right for Halloween and on Halloween and that's in Provo And that's a free public haunt in a backyard and it's great It's I have gone to some paid haunted houses and Utah has got some really great paid haunted houses There's some I haven't been to but I've heard that they're great I have been to some and they're great and this free haunted house Indian Hills Horror is just as good if not better than some that I've been to And last year in three nights, I think they did over 3,000 feet Yes, it's free and they do accept donations They put a ton of work into it They literally spend at least four weeks maybe six to eight planning and putting it together So if you were to throw them a couple bucks when you went in they would appreciate that and everything that they get goes right into new props and the lighting and sound systems, I mean, it all goes right back into what they do so Well worth it. Yeah, it's it's a really great event. I think it's like their 17th or 18th year also and they built up every year Fantastic.
Okay, so we have the residential this residential is still in the works It's not a one and done type of a deal And I don't want to give out too many details Since it's still ongoing and as you know anytime we do a residential we keep that confidential We've had a few people there like I don't care, you know, my address. I don't care but we do try to you know unless we get permission from you It's very confidential, but this one is interesting. It's one that just castle and I did and it's a it's a close connection to him Pretty much there is several really dicey type three's in this home This is the first time that I have seen a type three. I actually saw a type three in this home You tell and it was interesting so it's a couple and their son and the Sun is is being tormented by these spirits And he's an older son.
Yeah, he's he's older. He's I mean he's an adult child of the zone I mean he's an adult man, but he is their child he lives out so They've been having some issues with him and based on the issues they determined that they needed to come and speak with us And so we went over and again. I don't want to give out too many details, but we were down in their living room You know castle is talking to The homeowners and and we had determined that there were a couple type three's there over just off to my left there was I saw type three it was kind of a gray color and And it's so hard to explain it the best way to explain it is you remember the movie predator Yeah, and it was kind of shimmery. I mean it looked like the back like whatever it was behind it But it was kind of shimmery like a fog glass kind of thing in front of it.
Yeah, but then kind of distorted the background Yeah, so it's not that distortion and so you're like oh you didn't see a type three just your eyes played a trick on you But it had kind of I mean it had this kind of a grayish Color to it at the same time and I know that that sounds you're like okay Was it just a shimmery background or was it gray? It's hard to explain, but it was both but then it moved I mean if it was an optical illusion as soon as I moved my eyes it would have you know my eyes would have reset and figured it out But I just I watch this kind of just kind of glided across the room I'm like wow never seen that before so that was that's kind of awesome. That's interesting Yeah, so again, I feel bad that I can't give you a whole lot of details But like I said this one is still kind of in the works that's about as many details as I feel comfortable giving so We are doing residential and when I can say a little bit more I won't but as always we keep your identities confidential confidential. Thank you the word was just gone poof gone I'm glad I can help.
I just hear staring in the space thing. I got nothing. Okay, so let's just jump right into our main topic I'm excited for this one. It sounds interesting.
I've seen a number of things on this over the years You know there's things in our lexicon and our speech that deal with this that you don't really think about something like save by the bell Oh, yeah, and blow smoke up your ass. Yeah, yeah, so sunshine out your ass. Oh, really? I'm excited about it You know just being sunshine right out there as you never heard that.
No, so it goes both ways So we have we have had a couple different episodes on different things that kind of bring in Victorians and I have mentioned before that Victorians were just creepy and weird and and don't get me wrong Don't get me wrong. I think it's a fascinating time period I like the clothing it's really interesting to see you know All the advances and medicine and everything that kind of came up in that period of time It's a fascinating time period and if I could go visit it, I totally would I wouldn't want to live there But I would go visit to the Victorian period But this whole topic of buried alive just kind of lends to my opinion of Victorians were just creepy They needed the internet's because they they need they needed something and they just picked creepy ass stuff Creepy creepy. So we're talking about being buried alive, which to me gives me the willies because I have got the worst claustrophobia ever I can't even read about claustrophobia several years ago in Utah. There was a gentleman who got stuck in This is a this is a cave that castle actually splunked several times I know doc has also and I can't even read about this man They got stuck in there and he died they were unable to get him out and so they closed off the cave is kind of the memorial to him and I mean He's still in it.
They couldn't get him out. So it's also why they closed off I can't even read about that without just see the guy that was like stuck upside down or something or Actually, he was physically wedged into a spot or something So in the nutty I can't even talk about this without getting the major release so in the nutty putty cave there is there Was a place it was so narrow they called it the birth canal And if you had a backpack on you would have to take the backpack off and push it ahead of you And you had to push your way through with your toes and fingers and that to me just sounds so Unappealing no so anyway, yeah, so this fellow was just a little bigger than maybe The average person and he got stuck in there. I don't know that he was upside down, but it might have been at an angle I don't know I've never been there about anyway, so reading about well along that case if you go out to YouTube and search buried alive There is a nutty cave video that comes up clip on that so it's really quite fascinating incident that happened and tragic and you know I still there. Oh Raven.
I know how you freaked out just in those slot canyons. Oh, yeah, no No, we would turn a corner and it's just like No, I can imagine doing that in total darkness. Yeah, that was a cathedral gulch or gulp In Nevada when we came back from our peo sh investigation and we'll stop there and they're there like in mud I've been in the slot canyons like down at spooky and us in a scolani spooky and the ones that are down there in the sandstone These were like mud and they were what 60 80 feet tall and a foot and a half wide Maybe maybe a foot wide so anyway, there is we're gonna we're gonna get away from caves we're coming back to Being very alive. We're talking more about like in cemeteries in the Victorian breed There's actually a word for it and it's called taphophobia, which is the fear of being buried alive and a lot of people have it I think I definitely would have that because that would just be the claustrophobia pinnacle It was actually a very very common in Victorian times because they didn't have the medical resources and knowledge of stuff that we do now and so One of the reasons why it was such a big deal in the Victorian times is because it just happened a lot in the Victorian times To the point where they're saying and what there's a saying that when I found the saying online it didn't credit who said it So I don't know who said this one.
Sorry. It says wisely. They leave graves open for the dead cause some too early are brought to bed So leave the grave open for a while. Yeah, so we're gonna tell you a few stories about Incidences where people were actually buried alive now How when did when did the bell come and come and they started installing on these aren't the Victorians come up with that too?
Yeah, and we will we will get to that that's that's creepy. Yes, there's no, okay Let's talk about the stories first so they say that as far as we can tell The 14th century are where we find accounts of specific people actually being buried alive So there was a philosopher in in the high Middle Ages I believe he was in Scotland and his name was John Dunns scotus and He was reportedly found it outside of this coffin and his hands torn up in a way that suggested he had tried to free himself So you know, I'm thinking you know, you get out of your coffin and now you're just in dirt That would be even more creepy. I would rather just be in the coffin But you know, you're trying to get out, right? Kind of Before we get into too many more of the stories It really kind of became I don't want to say popular because it just happened a lot Which is why there were so many of them but in place very commonplace But you get Mary Shelley who wrote Frankenstein and then you get Poe and he wrote a short story called premature burial in 1844 And these two stories were two of many that really kind of catapulted it from this is something that happens all the time you know to into the public consciousness Really into the public consciousness and kind of made it a frenzy So not only was it commonplace, but then it kind of became a frenzy And I just want to read a little something that he said and this kind of goes into your belthing before we talk about some more stories But Poe said the slightest pressure upon a long lever and this is from his book That extended far into the tomb would cause the iron portal to fly back There were arrangements also for the free admission of air light and convenient receptacles for food and water within immediate reach of the coffin intended for My reception this coffin was warmly unsophily padded and was provided with a lid fashioned upon the principle of a vault door with the addition of springs So contrived that the feebless movement of the body would be sufficient to set it at liberty Besides all this there were suspended from the roof of the tomb of a large bell a rope of which it was designed should extend through a hole in the coffin And so be fastened to one of the hands of the corpse And the idea is if you woke up and you were alive you'd ring the bell someone would hate a bell they'd Conviguate but this was from Poe's book.
He just he just wrote about it. Anyway, so let's get into some stories first. So There's a family it called the Mount Edgecombe family and they had a lady named Countess Emma and Emma had married You know the Earl of Mount Edgecombe in 1761 He was quite wealthy and she was pronounced dead and she was buried with quite a valuable ring on and there's a sexton who noticed this ring, you know the burial is taking place and he decided to go get it after going on that and so You know and at this time we've already talked about on another podcast body snatching was very popular this time and so he goes to you know snatch this ring and when he opens up the coffin she wakes up she's confused obviously she's like what the heck and The sexton who's trying to steal this ring as you would guess completely freaks up You know because the corpse came to life I would be freaked out if I'm thinking someone's dead and they come to life and so he ran away They said they've never seen him again So the Countess makes her journey back to the estate which they said was about a half a mile so not too far But everyone that thought she was dead is like completely shocked and to this day the estate has the Countess pathway that kind of commemorates her journey from the grave back to her home And so this burial was in what doesn't say when the burial is She got married in 1761 and they said that she actually died in 1807 Like did did like actual And I'm just gonna pause for a moment. Velma you're here.
Yay. Hello. There you are I don't know why the camera doesn't work. So you just have to hear my voice that is falling apart from work last night No, we're just glad you're able to hop on yay.
Yay. Thanks for having me. Okay, so here's some more stories of people that were buried alive So this was in the 17th century in England There was a woman named Alice London who was buried alive apparently she was knocked out after having had a large quantity of poppy tea The doctor held a mirror to her nose and mouth and didn't get any condensation and so pronounced her dead If you know anything about tea, which I do not so this I got from the internet If you get if you make tea from dried unwashed seed pods at least this particular seed poppy seed It would have contained morphine and Cody in which is well-known or said it as you give me morphine Go away to sleep well you think about the Wizard of Oz and the poppies poppies It's kind of the opium morphine. Yep, so they thought she was dead So her family made arrangements for the burial and back then they would do it quickly because they didn't really do the emomine And if you sat around for a long time, you would just start to smell that right two days after she was buried There's some children playing near the headstone They heard noises and so they went and got the schoolmaster the schoolmaster's checking out the grave They discovered that she was still alive, but it took another day to exhumor and this story I think is so funny So they exhumored and they said she was so close to death that they just returned her to her grave Literally it said just if I read her bedroom She was so close to death that she was returned to her grave where a guard stood by before deserting his post the next morning She was found it but only after struggling to free herself once more It's like she's close to death, but not all the way dead.
Why don't you give her some water? Why don't you? He'd been nearly dead all day. Yeah, so poor Alice Blended.
So there's a man in Russia Oh, I'm sorry. It was a woman in Russia. This was actually recent. This isn't an old one.
We'll get back to some old ones I can't pronounce her name So I'm not even gonna try it because I will slaughter it But she lived in Kazan, Russia and she died of a heart attack in 2011 was declared dead and She's at her funeral laying in her coffin and she woke up, you know, she's You know, she's seen that she's in a coffin She's seen people standing around her morning and she figures out what's going on and she started yelling I'm sure she scared the living daylights out of everybody But she was rushed back to the hospital she lived for 12 minutes in intensive care And then she died again for good and they said that the cause of her death was heart failure The most recent story I have and then we'll go back to some old ones is Walter Williams. He was from Mississippi He was pronounced dead on February 26th of 2014 and CNN actually reported this This is kind of a big deal. They said the correct paperwork was all completed You know, his body was put to a body bag. He was taken to a funeral home I mean just the normal things that you do these days and when they went to take him into the embalming room They noticed his legs started to move and then the corner, you know, it's looking at the legs moving And then he notices that his chest is just you know, lightly moving up and down and he was alive But again, it was also a short-lived resuscitation resuscitation because two weeks later he passed away for real So I mean it does still happen now is the point I'm trying to get out Yeah, some of those have happened with military situations too recently through Desert Storm and some of these others were people have been declared dead and been transported back and as they're Checking them out, you know, they see their weeping or shallow breathing where you know They thought they were dead and on some of those they've actually revived and some of those soldiers have lived Reminds me that mighty python scene bring out your dead and throws the body on their cart.
I'm not dead yet Wasn't up. Yeah, that was a great scene I love it. We won't be back till Wednesday So there are just numerous cases and you know the Victorian times So here's a couple that I thought were interesting in 1879. There was a woman who gave birth to a baby and a coffin in Russia And they were both discovered dead you know later, but when they when they buried her she was pregnant And when for whatever it doesn't say why they dug them up, but later they discovered mom and baby In 1887 in summer town, South Carolina a woman gave birth and a coffin just as the funeral procession was coming to the church It says the the pallbearers were startled by the noise and then a crying noise that resembled the new in the cat And they say that this is the only 19th century case known where the mother and child are said to have survived Wow There was one in 1890.
There's a woman named Gouda who was buried and when the coffin was reopened And it doesn't say white was reopened. They said the corpse of a newborn child was found lying beside his mother Which wasn't there when they laid her to rest Same year there was a woman named Lav Laverina and This one doesn't make sense to me. I'm just gonna read it. It says she gave birth in a vault to a seven-month old child Both were discovered deceased A seven-month old child.
They probably meant that the child was seven months into the pregnancy That's a two-month Pretty sure month's premature I was just gonna say the only thing that makes sense is it was seven months gestation not Yeah, that doesn't make sense. So the last case I've got is 1899 There was a actually real well-documented case in France. The lady's name was Madam Bobin It was buried while she was still warm and later for whatever reason they never get the reasons that they're exhumed but it was exhumed And when they opened the coffin, there had been a child born while she was in the coffin Well, that sounds like kind of a theme Yes, there's women, you know pass out or something and then they're soon dead while pregnant in the 1800s 19th century and they put them in the ground pretty quick and then for some reason go back and check That's what I was noticing a pattern of you know the women who just had their baby or this or that I don't know it's interesting how it's consistently a lot of that Yeah, and it's I mean makes sense I when I was pregnant with my first job I remember passing out the bathroom, you know, so I could just see this woman passing out and stay I mean I didn't stay passed out for very long time. It was only out for probably a few seconds I found out that I was pregnant I would pass out Right so you might say well, why didn't they you know do better checking they actually did some pretty creepy checking They I mean they tried and remember I started this podcast off with Victorians as fascinating as the period is And I would love to visit there they did some creepy stuff You don't want to be checked some of these ways inventive usually quite creative But you know you have to figure with everything they had to work with at the time it was pretty creative So let's see here.
So here is one of the ways Like we're talking about some of the verbiage that we use now. So the term blowing smoke up your ass Actually comes from Victorians checking to save your dead So what they would do is it was a tobacco a Tobacco Glister is what they call that they would just get tobacco smoke they would keep you warm it says so they have a little saying It's tobacco guster breathe and bleed keep warm and rub till you succeed and Spare no pains for what you do may one day be repaired to you So there was a kit and a kid had a tube a fumigator and some billows And so you take the tube and you'd connect it to the fumigator and billows and the other end of the tube was inserted into your And then compressed smoke was forced into your bottom Sometimes bellows weren't always available and so less sophisticated mists Less sophisticated methods were used probably just smoke a cigar and blow it in yourself or blow it in the other person Well, that's what I mean. You would you would do it yourself not with those So there was a case in 1746 about the resuscitation of a man's wife who was revived by using a tobacco pipe And what he did was he shoved the stem into her bottom while he covered the other end of the pipe with his mouth and blue Well, and she was revived You think you ever use that pipe again? I wouldn't Well, it's interesting when you first were reading the like I don't know the directions or something It's not so flowery and poetic for such a interesting tactic that we into further detail It's like they're trying to paint pretty picture for what they were doing, right?
Well, I'm wondering I mean I'm marketing to the side. Yeah, right? Yeah. Yeah, it's like who?
We're so crude about it. Okay marketing is a thing. I'm gonna go off topic here for just a second I had a son who was in a bad accident He broke his jaw and he had to have his jaw wired shut for a month And so we're in the hospital and the nutritionist comes in to explain to him how to eat with your with your jaw wired shut And you know, we're all intelligent people and so we figured it would have to do something like just blending everything up So she comes in and she's like yeah, you know, you just blend everything up and you know Different liquids to it depending on what it is, you know, you know to help, you know, fit out the consistency And she says but you know what it's really interesting. She says no matter what you blend up It tastes like exactly what it is She says if you take a corn dog and blend it up and put in a little catch up a mustard It's gonna taste exactly like a corn dog with a catcher from last year and I'm thinking lady if you're trying to sell someone on a liquid Diet, I would probably pick something besides corn dog to really drive Some people even want it when it's it's normal shit, right?
It's like maybe try flamingion or I had a corn dog at the Renaissance fair that the the inside of like the breading wasn't actually fully cooked It turned me off a corn dog for a while. So that does not sound appealing to me certain things should not be in in shakeform No, but I'm thinking really corn dog was your first go to no It's like a liquefied baloney sandwich Another way they would test to try to determine if you were really dead or not You would take the the person that you were suspect and you were trying to figure out if they were actually dead or not And you would hold their finger over the flame of a candle to check for circulating blood And so the idea was the warmth from the candle would have produced kind of a pulsating Effect that would indicate the heart was still beating because at this time the stethoscope wasn't invented yet Could it be also like how they have now phones you can put your finger over this light section and it does It's like your blood pressure. So the light is light and heat with the candle. Yeah, probably Interesting like we got the modern day version now You're not sure if you're laughing or not with your but their finger over the phone.
Yeah, if they put your finger put their finger over Of candle flame and if they scream they're probably yeah, that's what I thought you were gonna say I'm like that's a little more advanced than I expected well, yeah Here's the thing here's the thing is it gets it gets darker So if you're holding you know, they're finger over a candle and you're just not really sure that's working the next step was You would chop off a toe or a finger You can't just give a little poke I mean come on right Yeah, the idea was that the shock of removing such a sensitive body part would wake up someone who was you know, not genuinely dead I don't know are they dead? I don't know got off their fingers. See what they do that kind of reminds me in the movie charade with the old one with a Carrie Grant when one of the people supposed to be dead and the there's people there trying to make sure that they're dead I'm not with a big needle and sticks it in the corpses leg. It's like, okay.
Yes, you did People want to come are certainly not gonna react to their toga and chopped off I'll say that right unless it's some kind of weird reflex thing But I don't know about that if that wasn't your jam if you didn't feel like you should cut off body parts to check if they were alive There's more oh, oh, there's more But there are more so the other thing the other idea was you would take scalding water and pour over the unconscious body Because if the person was alive The skull the scalding water would you know create significant burns, right? And then they wouldn't be alive for very long I'm alive, but I would rather not be thank you. I said I'm dead right I son burned the absolute life out of myself like in July And I pretty much thought I was gonna die But there was an Englishman named Barnett and he came up with a far more thorough scalding water method just in case you wondered because you know He's he's very advanced because regular scalding water just isn't efficient enough exactly So he said you know it would be a lot better if we just burned a patch of skin on the arm Because if it blisters then the person's alive and not fit to be buried Not fit to be buried. That's an interesting term Yeah, you know if it didn't blister then you were dead, but if it did blistering your life And so other doctors would kind of use a similar thing.
I don't know I think that's better than the scalding water all over the body Probably well, is it? I think so I'd rather have a burn on my arm than yeah Well, yeah, okay, but I would rather have a burn anywhere But listen there were some doctors that would say no you need to burn the corpses nose Let's just let's just burn and disfigure the most prominent part of your face and we'll shock you back into consciousness You can just have a disfigured face the rest of your life But I guess you wouldn't be dead so you wouldn't be buried alive So later in this time period they figured out you know the beating heart you know our lack of the beating heart could indicate life and death and so There was a man. He was a German scientist and he engineered what they called a needle flag test And so this test involved thrusting a needle into the chest And the needle was attached to a little fabric flag and it said that if the flag waved the person's heart was still It was in 1893 there was a doctor at the hospital in France They had a female patient the family was concerned that she was you know They didn't know if she was dead or not they said we don't feel like she's dead We really want this test before we bury her because you know This is something that's in all the Victorian people's mind They want to make sure that their loved ones are actually dead because even though the Victorians were creepy They weren't really keen on burying their loved ones alive And so you know this doctor his name his last name was Ickert Dr. Ickert had already said she was dead, but the family said no we really want you to check So he plunged the needle into the woman's heart and waited and the flag didn't wait And so he's like no she's dead so the family is like we weren't really sure that she was dead to begin with and you just stuck something in her heart So anyway, they then they blamed him for actually killing her the press really came down on him And the needle flag theory just kind of died out after that test wasn't administered as much thereafter No, no that you know, they're still burning people's noses mind you and I wish I had put in the information about the stethoscope it was about this time that they invented a stethoscope Which looked different than stethoscope in the days it was kind of just a big long wooden tube But they did finally invent a stethoscope to listen for the beanheart the last little thing I've got is I found the most interesting So the word morgue Comes from the French word morgue It's spelled m-o-r-g-u-e-r I don't speak French I don't know how you pronounce that but it means to stare And so the idea by the late 1800s Parisian morgues kind of became these public spectacles because what they would do is if they Thought you were dead they're like we've had a lot of people that we thought were dead We've buried them they've come back to life or we've exhumed them and we could tell that they you know What really did and so before they would bury you they would take you to a morgue and just lay you out on a slab And just wait for you to wake up and if you didn't wake up, you know in a certain amount You know if your body started to put your fire then they figured your dead then you're like yeah They're dead and if it didn't then they thought yeah, well wait a few more days since it happens And so it just almost became like a play it became like a theater people would flock by the thousands just to go look at these people waiting to be You know to determine if they were actually dead or not.
That's pretty morbid by today's standards I mean a lot of times You know the families having that room where they haven't go sit have to lay the body out and all the family all hangs out together To see just to make sure for days and give time to say goodbye if needed I've heard a lot a lot of tradition So I mean this is kind of just morbid enough as it is getting only for people to think of a morgue again But they would have these bodies just laying on slabs behind these large glass windows And while you were waiting for your turn because it was quite the thing to do you could you know by pastries from vendors and toys for your kids I mean it was just it was the thing to do you know you go to the movie you eat popcorn you go to the morgue by some pastries I mean it was just a thing But after a while it finally became kind of taboo and morgues came More like they are today where you know the body goes and you know invite people to come stare at it It was just clinical and didn't have the entertainment factor anymore It's not nearly as much fun anymore. So in the late 19th century kind of as we wrap up creepy Victorians Germany it says is probably one of the best places to perish because the waiting mortuary which you know these morgues was really popularized in the 1880s and Most of them were located in Munich and they were called the Munich Leak in house and These were where that they these were the ones that they would put the corpses to lie on zinc trays mind you not just not just any old Trey a zinc tray until the Putrification process or you know the process started decomposition began and the reason why this was the best place to die is because these zinc trays Were filled with an aniseptic to reduce the chance of infection or delay putrification And they were decorated with flowers to the skies to smell death And so they really think that this is where the tradition of flowers that if you don't kind of came from And these mortuaries were divided by class so the richest families had their section You know down the forest and I'm sure the rich people probably had the nicest flowers and Anyway, so you missed one of the tests to find out if people were dead that I heard about I'm actually have a couple others here Okay, I'll let you go. No, you go for it. No, I've been Okay, another test they did was they would take a wrought iron bar and heat it up to red hot and stick it up the person's rectum Ah, I mean if you're not dead you would kind of wish you were I'm sorry, but you were creepy.
I've heard it. Is that where the expression stick a red hot poker up your ass comes from? Probably because if there's another incident where that's happens No, there's actually a couple others. So did you have that one?
I did not have that. Okay. It was not on my nautilus I got to contribute So they did another thing where they would take invisible ink and they would write the phrase I am really dead with this invisible ink and then the idea was they would play place it under the person's nose and If the person was really dead they would release sulfur dioxide as part of the putrification process It would activate the ink and so if if the ink was activated invisible, and it would say I'm really dead Then the corpse was officially decided dead Science man, it's crazy. Exactly.
However, they said that false positives were occasionally a problem grab the wrong pin I know so in dentistry as we know it today Obviously did not exist back then and they say you know science today says common problems like tooth decay and tonsillitis could Causing missions of sulfur dioxide to to register that activate the note They were fascinating they were very I mean it's creative, you know, they're thinking they're trying to think of ways to figure out if you're really dead But they abandoned that one pretty quick because it wasn't very legit too many too many faults hits on that one So I tried to find some stories of like people that had been buried alive and their ghosts came back to haunt I couldn't find any but I'm thinking if you go to an old Victorian cemetery, there's probably somebody that has been buried alive there And I would think I mean any cemetery there's going to be spirits that are buried For a variety of reasons, but I think if you're buried alive, there's one thing around definitely going to be some I had a little story I found about the spirit world mixed with the very alive thing Do share yeah, so I was kind of looking through and there's this book Daniel Cohen's book the encyclopedia of ghosts There are a couple stories with this fate But there's two here and the one that I'm connecting to is that it says that to like childhood best friends So they have deep connection and they own a store together and So one day John was writing one of them was John next was writing to the next time when something spoke This horse was thrown and hit his head on a rock So, you know on about that you think it's dead But it could just be hitting so then the doctors Pretend that the scene pronounced dead he was carrying home a wagon buried near the orchard on the family farm The day after his funeral his best friend started have a vivid nightmare and his dream John said before him and asked Why did you let them bury me? I was not dead and his friend replied, but you were dead So he was so John was disgusted at this response stated no I wasn't if you don't believe me check out my coffin you will find the proof you need the next one John appeared and his friends dreams and continued to argue with him the friend that is what ends up funny when To his grave and dug it up and they found him face down and of course he was buried face up So interesting little combo there spooky and I have heard of you know coffins that they have you know Exhumed for whatever reason and you know they've seen scratch marks People trying to get out which is just that margaritas and you know when we started this it says the first known Story we have is you know from the 17th century, but I just I'm sure this has happened Throughout time through at the beginning of time as soon as people started dying Or you know passing out and they're burying people. I'm sure it's happened all throughout time I mean some of the stories we read it's happened as early as early as recently as 2014 I mean as far as I know the internet even if all our technology advancements of whatever known heartbeats and all that it's still it's not impossible things So nope, so very creepy. Wow So this was brought to us by Hotel O'Tales they're awesome Raven just took some friends there not too long ago and they all had a great dinner Oh, we did I was gonna take three people I ended up only taking two one of the gals couldn't make up it is my it is my My gosh, I can't think of her today favorite It is my duty to introduce everybody to this restaurant because it is fabulous Your life's purpose at this point.
Yes. Yes every time I go in there owner's name is mosey And every time I go in there I wave I'm like hey, I brought new people and so I brought in these two new people and he was working on it So but it is my my destiny to introduce the world to a title Oh, hey, oh, hey, oh, really really really really really really really good check out our shop at advanced paranormal YouTube TikTok are you on X aka Twitter? No, okay, so for our junk drawer today Chad and I went to oddities. Have you guys been to oddities ever?
I have not I've heard I've heard of it because it comes It's like a traveling thing right because it comes down here Tampa I believe at the event center Orlando and I've always wanted to go but it always comes up like oh by the way It's next weekend. I'm like one little busy now When you can actually go to their website and see when they're gonna be where and what is it called? It's not just oddities. It's called So it's called the oddities and curiosities Expo, thank you, don't know I always just call it oddities because it's easier Well, that makes sense But when you're trying to explain it to people right so the idea of the oddities and curiosities Expo is Like a home show, you know you go to a home show and they have a tent about You know certain furnace or certain type of grass or Yeah, and just all these things so this is kind of the same thing.
It's like a home show but for creepy Curiosities oddities obscure stuff. So, you know, there's a lot of booths with artwork. There's a lot of booths with So I'm kind of envisioning like a traveling Ripley's believe it or not kind of thing Is it like that at all kind of they've got shows that they do on the side They had like performers that perform they had a taxi drummy show this year But it's more marketing of like vendors and tents where people come in and and show what they've created and sell Trade show then yeah, yeah, I mean I had it so they had it at the Southtown Expo Center in Sandy Utah And they had some food vendors, but the food was more Just standard just it was standard food from the venue itself But last year when I went it was only one day and there were so many people the boost look really cool But there were so many people you could not even get to the booth I didn't I only looked at maybe a quarter of them last year so this year when we went it was two days and it was Saturday Sunday we went on Sunday just because our Saturday was so busy and there weren't as many people there which was nice yet We're actually able to see the booth I didn't like the boost as well this year as I did last year and it kind of depends on who signs up for the boost I mean there's some that travel with it There's some that you know We'll just come in locally so the oddities that you see in Salt Lake is going to be different than the oddities that you see in Tampa Or different than the one you see in Denver We talked to one gal who does Salt Lake and in Virch as they're relatively close This year the big theme was animal skulls taxidermy animals floating in jars of liquid What was the other thing that I said there's just a ton of oh and butterflies in Brim Butterflint and they're everywhere. I've seen them now.
I see them at the state fair I see them made into earrings. I have earrings that are laminated butterfly wings. It's taken over and I was at the beach Right and it's very cool. Last year.
There's a lot more Halloween stuff and I kind of like to go for Halloween So there's a lot of artwork You know just a lot of very very interesting things that you don't normally see They were like some I saw some door knockers that were like you know They're not knockers But like handles big door handles for doors that there was a skull and then the spine was attached and the spine is what you'd have grabbed to open the door Which were which were very cool, but I don't know that it would come well on our front door It better be comfortable for your hand all the time. Well, the neighbors would understand and anybody else would just walk away quickly Which we would right I will definitely go again next year Like I said last year the booths were fantastic and it just depends on who signs up for the booth I mean the the show itself doesn't really have I mean I'm sure they've got control over it as far as you know You're so bizarre that we're not gonna let you come in type of thing You know it just depends on who signs up to go last year the booths were fantastic But there's so many people you can get to them this year I wasn't really as crazy about the booth. I did buy two creepy dolls and a creepy old jar Oh, I want to see that to add to my else any picture. Oh, do they have any like speakers or anything?
Or just like more about shopping and seeing booth experience They do it's mostly you know the booths and the shopping they do have a little side things They have performances and things there was a woman that was doing sort swallowing and oh wow, and then you can buy just your standard ticket to get in But you can also buy tickets with with punch You know you could like you could buy ticket that would get you into the show itself and into the taxidermethang You know you could get out on street tickets, so they do have these little side shows But you have to be on extra to get into those They're coming to be in I finally looked up ahead of time And now I know why I can't go because they're gonna be on Veterans Day 11 11, and I'll be at the Renaissance fair So definitely go I will definitely go again next year. So overall you're gonna get a thumbs up. Yes overall a thumbs up I didn't like the booth as much this year as I did last year But it's still an experience you still get to see a lot of things and there were a lot of interesting oddities walking around as the patrons Yeah, people I mean people will dress up to go to this It's almost I bet you a fourth of the people there were kind of cosplayish Yeah, and then there was a lot of other people that weren't cosplayish that were very interesting Yeah, people watching this fun. So now it was we were there for two hours.
Yeah, two and a half three and definitely fun experience so If you get a chance go I will I will go again next year. Oh, sorry. I got my creepy dolls You're not whole creepy room soon. I know Except one thing I do notice is one of the dolls I bought had a the other price tag on it one side had the price the other side said definitely not haunted Have you felt anything?
No, I think that's just a sales game that people put on there to get you I don't think most of the stuff that they said said was haunted really was so So just you have something for us today Yeah, I've been on here a little while the last time I was on I was actually planning next to do crystals of the summer It's not quite that time anymore part and spooky seasons upon us So I just want to start off I just say one little one that can be considered for our spooky season and I'll share more in the future But I went to a website crystal vault start on the blog and they have some really cool things to check out And I saw the first one they said was black obsidian to ward off negative energies And that's like a basic one that everyone always buys so I figured I was my starter one to talk about back up City is a natural choice for Halloween the jet box Donas are now in for its ability to absorb and transit negative energies So you place it by your doorstep to protect your home from unwanted spirits or where it has joy to shield your aura during how In festivities and people tend to just wear it all the time due to that as well Nice very cool. I think black obsidian just how shiny and you know awesome it is. I love it. I'm sitting yeah Yeah, and I really like for everybody yeah I really like how you said it's a good starter one You know if there's a there's a handful that if you're just starting to get into stones and I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination But from what I do know that would be you know if I told you five basic stones to start with that's one that I would have in You're for sure and it's like being black it doesn't have oats you grow either so that we avoid all that else yet Everyone can use a nice black stone that shiny.
Yeah Shiny black I also have jet which is kind of a dull black Yeah, and I get yes, I love my jet because I bought my jet in Salem, Massachusetts with like special jet Yeah, I've never seen a house check around. Yep. Alrighty. Thank you Alrighty well stay spooky my country friends.
