Burning Bridges, Baby!

   Burning Bridges, Baby! There comes a time in almost every relationship where we stand on one side of a bridge, people we care about stand on the other, and we have a decision to make…. Are we about burning bridges? Are we about nuking bridges and filling the chasm with sharks with laser beams on their heads? Are we about raising the drawbridge for a while… allowing some water to pass underneath? Or are we about simply raising the tolls for them to cross that bridge and join us on the other side? Only you, rock star, can make that decision. While burning bridges may light your way (one of my favorite t-shirts!) and look really spectacular, it leaves no room for forgiveness, for redemption, for reconciliation. Sometimes all it takes is time for relationships to heal.  Time for the hurt to lessen, time for some healing to occur, and time for introspection by both parties about their responsibility for the friction. It’s true that you cannot go through life simply being about burning bridges whenever things get hard. Yet, sometimes burning bridges may be all you have left. Each situation is unique, each challenge requires its own solution. So before you make a life of simply burning bridges as you go, try raising the toll for them to cross it first.
