Business Rundown: Jobs Miss Expectations As Tariff Challenges Loom

August’s jobs report showed that the labor market is slowing, with only 22,000 jobs created—significantly fewer than the 75,000 expected. The news about the sluggish job market comes as Wall Street and Main Street grapple with uncertain economic conditions and fresh questions about tariffs. A federal appellate court is throwing out most of President Trump’s tariffs, though the decision is on hold until mid-October, meaning tariffs are still being collected for now.
