But How do I Edit that Dang First Draft?

from How to Write Good · host Daniel Poppie

Once you get to the first draft, it feels like you have finished your book. Doesn't it? Doesn't it? You want to run through the streets. You want to tell everyone that you've written the book. You want them to congratulate you, but I am going to burst that bubble you've created for yourself. You have not written a book. That thing you've got right there, that messy mass of paper and words is not a book. I feel bad saying that, but I am telling the truth. You've got a ways to go before that thing curls up inside of a chrysalis and emerges as a finished novel. You have reached a summit, but you are not at the top of Everest. The hardest part is still ahead. Editing sucks, but you can do it because I am going to give up some tips in this episode how you can get through that draft and make it into something special.
