We like to think that we have life handled and under control. Maybe not all the time, but generally speaking we think our way of doing things is the best way. We want to be the masters of our own domain and we definitely don’t like the idea of anyone else that we need to answer to. Even when that someone else is God. This week we look at Jacob. A man who would do almost anything to get ahead and insisted on trying to control his own destiny. He was willing to cheat to get what he wanted and it took a long time for him to learn that we reap what we sow. Humility was not something he prioritized and neither do we. We love ourselves a little too much sometimes. We think a little too highly of ourselves and our ways. We resist God and rely on our own ways and traditions when his way is always the right one.We need to humble ourselves before God. Jacob discovered this truth and we will too one day. The sooner the better.
