Byron Scott (Part 2)

Byron Scott picks up his career story right after LeBron’s Decision, explaining why he still chose to coach Cleveland, how he helped shape Kyrie Irving’s early development, and what it was like stepping into chaos during one of the NBA’s biggest turning points. He also opens up about coaching Kobe Bryant in his final Lakers years and the fallout that led to his firing. This episode dives into Scott’s post-playing career in detail: the reality of taking the Cavaliers job days after LeBron left, recognizing Kyrie’s greatness from day one, navigating front office politics, and trying to rebuild in impossible circumstances. He reflects on the promises he was given in Los Angeles, why he felt blindsided by the Lakers’ decision, and how coaching Kobe in his final season changed his perspective on the game. It’s an insider look at the pressure, loyalty, and business side of the NBA from someone who lived it at the highest level. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
