BYU Athletics Break Records in 2024 | Big 12 Basketball News

BYU shattered records in 2024, capturing both men’s and women’s cross country national titles for the first time in over 20 years—thanks to coaches Ed Eyestone and Diljeet Taylor, the latter now with two women’s championships. The football team surged to an 11-1 record, earned a Big 12 title game berth, and capped the season with a Pop-Tarts Bowl win led by a freshman QB. On the hardwood, Kevin Young’s debut season delivered a No. 6 NCAA Tournament seed and a Sweet 16 run, including a nail-biting win over Wisconsin. The heated “Holy War” rivalry returned in 2025, with BYU rallying from behind on the road to beat Utah in a dramatic, controversial finish. And then there’s AJ Dybantsa—BYU’s breakout star who led the nation in scoring, became the first Cougar ever drafted 1 overall in the NBA, and turned the entire program into a national powerhouse.
