from Confessions of a PYP Teacher · host Lu Gerlach
Send us Fan MailNow that we have engaged with inquiry thinking through engaging, challenging, relevant, and signficant, it helps us to think about planning on a deeper level. We will create our unit plan thinking through these questions: How will students create goals based on success criteria? How is the classroom arranged to invite inquiry? Who is making these decisions? What materials are being used? Is there a balance across all the content areas? What questions are being posed? Is there a balance between open and closed questions? What strategies are being modeled, so students can become more independent? How are student inquiries celebrated? How will students self and peer assess their understanding of the big ideas? Once you've planned with these questions in mind, you will have a more inquiry-driven learning happening in your classroom. Students will be contributors to the learning experience, because the setting has been prepared for their ideas and explorations.
