Calgary Businesses Fear LRT Impact | Calgary News

Calgary’s 10th Avenue businesses are bracing for chaos as city council greenlights a street-level Green Line LRT — a move that could spell disaster for local shops. With underground and elevated routes rejected as too expensive, the new line will terminate at 2nd Street SW, flooding the avenue with construction noise, dust, and traffic disruptions. Owners like Geoff Allan of Bottlescrew Bill’s are already reacting with protest signs and renamed beers — fearing years of upheaval will drive customers away and crush their livelihoods. John Batas of Michael’s Restaurant warns of worsening congestion from parkades dumping onto 10th Avenue, echoing Edmonton’s painful lessons where LRT projects led to business closures. This decision isn’t just about transit — it’s a high-stakes gamble with downtown commerce on the line. Listen in comfort:Get a discount on a Soli Pillow: http://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
