Calgary's New Slide Replaces Thunder Slide | Calgary News

Calgary’s Village Square Leisure Centre is getting a major upgrade with the retirement of the iconic 30-year-old Thunder Slide and the arrival of a dazzling, fully enclosed tube slide designed to thrill visitors year-round—no matter the weather. Featuring twists, turns, and color-changing translucent sections that glow in vibrant hues, the new slide is just one piece of a broader citywide effort to modernize recreation facilities under the GamePLAN strategy. Construction is underway, with the entire center set to reopen by late 2027, signaling Calgary’s long-term commitment to keeping its community hubs fresh, fun, and future-ready.
