Welcome to the tweet trends podcast. Hey, what's trending today? Hey, I mean, hey girl and you are tuned in to It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today After looking at my options for today, I decided that I'd call an audible. Let's get started So yeah, I was looking at what today is National Sky Scraper Day, and I'm like really?
What am I gonna say about that? So I had to take a step back and look at the days to come and I'm like wait a minute hold on tomorrow is Beyonce's birthday And that's enough right there. It's also National Lazy Mom's Day tomorrow, which I don't know that I like the way It's worded, but when you break it down, I'm down with the lazy day for mom cool cool then on Saturday It's International Day of Charity, so you know I like to give a little shout out to the charities out there So for sure that's another one and then let's see Sunday is National Read a Book Day all about that education and Monday is Labor Day So I was like you know what? There's far too many other things going on for me to talk about the fact that today is National Sky Scraper Day So having said all of that You know I got a little bit of time I can talk about those things that mean way more to me than skyscrapers Not saying that skyscrapers don't have their place in the world But they just don't speak to me like my BFF Beyonce does you know granted she doesn't know she's my BFF yet But one day one day our paths are gonna cross and she's gonna be like girl I feel like I'm knowing you all my life.
I'm like yeah girl I know and our girls are gonna be playing together because you know they're I think maybe a year apart and Yeah Yeah, I know it doesn't matter how much I say it It's not necessarily gonna make it happen, but a girl can dream right Okay, so I'm gonna start off talking about Labor Day because Unfortunately as a teacher I've always looked at Labor Day as that last little fling for summer that last hurrah before it's time to get back in the classroom Get under the books and start pushing that knowledge into the brains of the children that were in my classroom And know what's not as simple as just pushing the knowledge in because if so, you know I don't even know what to say America would be an awesome place if all we had to do was push the knowledge into the kids heads But anyway I digress The the fact is that honestly I don't think many younger people even understand or know what Labor Day is really about and In actuality it's to celebrate and reflect on the workers contributions to our country there have been a number of strikes and protests in the past dealing with working conditions that Some people didn't approve of kind of like this stuff We've got going on out in society right now where there are all of these marches and peaceful protests and in It's amazing because just like back in the 1800s There were people who were against the fact that the workers wanted a decent wage They wanted a decent work schedule like they didn't want to work 20 hours in a 24-hour day That that's ludicrous. They wanted to be able to see their families They wanted to be able to eat, you know for lunch break things like that And so they had to take to the streets They had to make their voices heard kind of like what we've got going on now And just like there was pushback back in the 1800s There's pushback now and hopefully just like Labor Day is now a celebration of all things workers Maybe there will come a day when the work out in the streets and the protests that's happening now Maybe there will be a day to commemorate all the good has happened and hopefully it won't come at the cost of lives You know, we've already seen that already as it is. We don't need more But I'm getting off the track of Labor Day But so for my young people out there Labor Day You you probably don't even realize that there was a need for it because your entire life Everything has been set up in a pretty cool little manner, you know, your parents go to work for a little bit They come home. They have weekends off.
You got paid vacation. They got sick leave They got a bunch of stuff, but that stuff didn't come easy and it didn't come for free People had to fight for that people had to work for that So just keep that in mind when you go about your your life and things come up and you and other people realize that things are not fair It's all right to make your voice heard because that's how change happens Okay, so Labor Day is on Monday national readable day is on Sunday and because I was talking about the whole end of summer Situation with Labor Day coming up that you know It only made sense to focus on the idea of reading because reading is fundamental You know that from reading rainbow and all the other places where people try to convince us to read and full disclosure I'm not big on books and It's not something I don't like to read but as a busy mom I feel like I don't have time to read I actually tried to read a book this morning and my daughter came and she sat next to me on the bed And she was like, hey, you want to sing a song? Hey, is somebody sitting next to you? Hey, is this is that is this and I kind of stopped I looked at I was like, hey, I'm reading a book right now Maybe you should do the same then you know and she kind of got the picture after I had to lay it out in so many words But I find that I can listen to an e-book and cook dinner or listen to an e-book and drive the car I can multitask when I'm listening to an e-book But there are some drawbacks to just listening to a book versus actually reading it first off vision If you have vision and you like your vision Exercise it use it to look at paper and to look at billboards and signs read It helps, you know, if you don't use it you lose it I'm not saying that I wear glasses now because I wasn't reading I just have old eyes right about it now But having said that still to read the words on paper Not only is that giving your eyes something to do you may run across a word that you don't know and it's like, oh Let me go look that word up and you're looking at it right there So you can go straight to a dictionary and find it if I'm listening to an e-book It's not very probable that I'm going to write a word down because I'm probably doing something else Which will prevent me from being able to fully engage and then figure out what that word is If I could not get the definition of it from the context of the sentence So there are benefits to reading Don't ever get to the point where you're so against reading you're so into technology that you cannot actually sit down with a newspaper a magazine a book Something in your hand and take the time enjoy that silence Enjoy that feeling of just jumping into the book and going on an adventure It's amazing where books can take you Okay, well that's today's episode of tweet trends and before I go though I do want to highlight the fact that saturday is international day of charity And I know some people have a really tough time They want to give to charities, but when you hear bad stuff about people with fake charities and things that just don't quite pan out Like it's a good charity But the percentage of the money that you donate to it those in people's pockets more than what it does going to help people So I stumbled across the fact that consumer reports has an article with best and worst charities for your donations And it's kind of like well, hey, somebody's already done the work for me They went and did their due diligence to come up with a list of different categories and then different charities within those categories Best and worst and you know what why not check it out?
It can't hurt right and who knows while you're there you may actually find out information about a charity that just you and that would be awesome So I'm gonna put that on my Twitter and possibly IG if I can figure that one out and um You know check it out in the meanwhile while you are on your social media Don't forget to check out at hay event. That's at he y e v e t e or just look for the hashtag tweet trends Oh, and by the way, don't forget Facebook at hay event and the number one All right, have a great weekend and I will see you back here on Tuesday
