Calling on the Victorian Government to establish a dedicated legal service for women, trans and Gender diverse people in prison, new report, and Ndis Bill

Content warning This episode of Doin time contains audio images of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples who have died, and graphic discussion of deaths in custody, and traumatic prison experiences and discussion about strip searches. The first interview was a yarn with Kelly Flanigan First nations Advocate from Figjam Collective.There was a big yarn abou the Human Rights Law Centre and Flat out calling on the Victorian Government to establish a dedicated legal service for women, trans and gender diverse people in prison to challenge human rights abuses and hold authorities to account.  Kelly spoke about her lived experience in prison, which was linked to a new report entitled The Dignitity Behind Bars.  Kelly talked about Solitary confinement and parole and how she could not get legal support in prison, which created trauma and vilation of human rights. The second interview was with Jarod Sandell-Hay Interim President of People With Disability Australia. There was a big discussion about the NDIS Amendment securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill 2026 condemning Parliament for proceeding despite the overwhelming evidence of the unacceptable harm this will cause.  For further information please check the People With Disability Australia website.
