Calvin Ridley Admits Betting; Deshaun Watson Grand Jury; & MLB Lockout Continues

from Conduct Detrimental: THE Sports Law Podcast · host Conduct Detrimental

Calvin Ridley has been suspended one year (2:21) for gambling on football games. Ridley allegedly bet a total of $1,500 while he was on leave from the team for mental health problems last season. Ridley responded on Twitter by admitting to the gambling. Is a full year suspension too harsh? Will this halt progression on states legalizing sports gambling? Deshaun Watson (23:09) is having his case heard in front of a grand jury. Watson didn't play all of last season without any formal discipline. We will keep an eye out for the results of the grand jury hearing. MLB continues to cancel games (39:00) as the lockout continues and negotiations remain uneventful.  *** Have a topic you want to write about?
