Cameron-Brooks Podcast: Episode 41 – Navy Nuclear Power Officer to Medical Device Quality Engineer

from PCS to Corporate America

In this episode, I interview former Navy LT, Lydia Barrett.  Lydia graduated from Tulane University with a BS in Biomedical Engineering and served five years in the Navy as a Nuclear Power Surface Warfare Officer.  She transitioned from the Navy to Stryker Medical as a Quality Engineer in early 2017. Our conversation focuses on her move from Navy Nuclear Power Officer to Medical Device Quality Engineer. Lydia does an exceptional job of explaining her role as a Quality Engineer and how she interacts with and impacts key leaders in marketing, sales, and engineering as well as with customers.  I learned that she is a problem-solving consultant. Lydia’s advice to those establishing themselves in business includes: Be approachable. Communicate often and, when in doubt, pick up the phone instead of emailing. Be “team” versus “I” oriented. Always bring pen and paper to a conversation or meeting.
