Cameroon's president Paul Biya has ordered a military court to drop its prosecution of three Anglophone activists and some of their supporters in a bid to ease tensions in the central African nation's minority English-speaking regions. The activists were arrested following mass protests late last year by English speakers demanding equal treatment in the majority Francophone country. Human Rights group Amnesty International which has been campaigning for the release of detained activists has welcomed the Presidential decision, but the group is also urging the authorities to release many others that are still in detention on what it says are trumped-up charges.
