Camouflage and Truth
from The Sportsman's Light · host Patrick
Camouflage is a sportsman's tool — breaking up your outline so wary eyes slide past. In the woods it's wisdom. In the soul it's poison. Too many men wear camouflage everywhere: blending in at church, concealing struggles from their wives, hiding weakness from friends, presenting an outline so broken up that nobody — sometimes not even themselves — can see the real man.David wrote Psalm 51 after his camouflage failed catastrophically. A year of concealment, and God sent a prophet to strip it away. Out of that wreckage came this insight: You desire truth in the inward being. God isn't interested in the pattern you wear. He wants truth at the core. The terrifying thing about coming out of hiding is also the healing thing: being fully known. God already sees through every pattern you own, and He loves you still. Take the camouflage off with Him first. Then find one trusted man and take it off there too. Truth in the inward being is where wisdom starts.Prayer:Lord, You desire truth in my inmost being — and I've spent years perfecting my camouflage. I'm tired of hiding. Here is the real me: the struggles, the doubts, the failures. Teach me wisdom in my secret heart, and give me courage to be honest with the people who love me. Amen.Challenge:Identify one thing you've been concealing — a struggle, a habit, a fear — that no one in your life knows about. This week, tell God about it plainly, then tell one trustworthy person. Take off the camouflage.
