Randall Cole serves as the Regional Vice President of Ducks Unlimited for Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. The lifelong Oklahoma native was also part of the 15 member coalition responsible for making sure the recent price increases to non resident hunters for the 2024-2025 was passed. We heard from Oklahoma Department of Conservation’s Micah Hughes last week, and while we did get some great information, one can expect a pretty PC conversation when dealing with a government agency. Randall peels back the onion a little bit more as to why Oklahomans wanted to see this change occur, and why politicians were eager to help get it passed. In case you didn’t know, to archery hunt as a non resident was $300 last fall, it’s now over $700. If you want to add a gun permit to that, cool…that’s another $500 on top of that. So the price hike is substantial to say the least. Will it affect Oklahoma’s economy negatively? Maybe it will have the desired outcome of raising revenue while keeping some hunters priced out of the equation. Much to discuss with Randall on non residents having to pay their share and then some.
