Can 3 Seas Initiative be a force of good?

from Visegrad Insight Podcast · host Res Publica Foundation

Editors of Visegrad Insight Kamil Jarończyk and Wojciech Przybylski talk about the Three Seas Initiative and present key findings of their new scenario-based report 'Towards 3SI Civil Society Forum' while this week Bulgaria hosts the 3Seas Initiative summit (8-9 July 2021). Fellows, Asya Metodyeva and Maliek Banat talk about terrorism online in Central Europe. https://visegradinsight.eu/3si2025/ In the last six years, Central European (CE) countries have initiated an unprecedented format that would aim at bettering connectivity in the European Union and increasing the investment potential of the whole block. They formed a joint investment fund and have regularly met to push for common development policies. This builds upon the ambitions of CE to reinforce Transatlantic cooperation while extending the idea of a secure and free Europe. But in order to build up the region and attract investment, a secure civil society actively participating in governance, as well as strong, independent media, are required. These two institutions would assert the societies’ control over their future and act as a bulwark against corruption.  https://visegradinsight.eu/online-terrorism/ Opportunistic authoritarian and illiberal politicians make use of the public’s support to curb the growth of extremist groups online, but in doing so hamper the civic freedoms of everyday citizens critical to their messages. What is needed is a cohesive, internationally supported policy which — at the moment — is lost in the maelstrom of hyperpolarisation.
