I've seen certainly in my own life, right? My family, entertainment industry, I'm all my friends and colleagues, and a good number of them, right, in this global health crisis. And not just involving people and relationships, but life works, goodbye to your life works, goodbye to your freedoms, goodbye to your savings, and to a lot of dreams. And it is hurt.
It's still hurting in some ways. And I know will hurt me, and perhaps you, many I know in the future. The losses and the goodbyes will still come. It is a world filled with pain, and all too many goodbyes, some of which were never said.
But I've also said, and I've also heard many new hellos. In my own life, my family, my kids, team members, clients, communities, I serve mentors, the people I look up to, new friendships, new relationships, new partnerships, new ventures, new hellos. And mind you, renewed friendships, renewed relationships, renewed partnerships, renewed ventures, adventures, renewed hellos. It is important to maintain a perspective of both the goodbyes and the hellos, to fight for a view that recognizes both.
Of course it's said, whether the glass is half full or half empty, I say, just get on with it and fill it. It's not about what is happening, right? It's about how we are being called, and should be, responding. Ernie Harwell, it's time to say goodbye.
But I think goodbyes are sad, and I'd much rather say, hello, hello to a new adventure. Open your eyes, my friend, and see the new doors and new hellos without denying the challenge, the pain of close doors and goodbyes. They go hand in hand. In fact, one has to happen before the next one has the chance to bless us further.
Again and again. Jesus said this to his believers in John 167, and I quote, let me say it again, this truth. It's better for you that I leave, so he's gonna say goodbye, right? If I don't leave, the friend will come.
That's the Holy Spirit. But if I go, I'll send him to you, end quote. So in a sense, the one who believes, he hasn't really left. But the amazing thing is that he promises to those who follow him, that not only has he left the Holy Spirit, he will come back as himself.
And when he comes back, he will take us with him too. John 14, verse one to four, do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. My father's house is many rooms.
If that were not so would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me, that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I'm going, end quote. What a comforting thought, right?
He said goodbye, but he's coming back to say hello. And he's gonna bring us back with him. The thought of a movie right now, hello, love, goodbye. Where my wife was privileged to be, the mother of Catherine, right?
Well, hello, love you, bye. With Jesus, more like goodbye, love, hello. Let me close with this Irish saying. And this I say with all my heart to you, to all of you.
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine, warm upon your face, and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
