Can I really choose? This is the daily service podcast with Anthony Pangin. You've been making choices even as we speak and you will continue to be doing so. Now, some may have referred this podcast to you, but you still chose to listen up, right?

Or are you? Here's an anonymous quote that makes absolute sense and I quote the three Cs of life choices, chances, changes. You must make a choice to take a chance or your life will never change. William Glasser argued that all choices are made to satisfy five basic needs.

Applies to you which choose for survival, Number one, Number two, Love and belonging, Power, freedom and fun. Mad calling, right? That sense of mission. Some call it a gentle Whisper in Joshua 24:15.

Choose this day whom you will serve. But as for me, in my house we will serve the Lord. Is it for survival, love and belonging, Power, freedom, fun. And if I may add, calling, of course, choices and calling, right?

A sense of mission as Joshua made happened later on in life, right? Not something we expect from my 10 year old Solana. But. But, but that's precisely why choosing needs some preparing, because it determines the rest of your life.

What was your first choice? Do you recall? Perhaps it was to spit out vegetables. Although I think some people do that even as adults.

See, it's interesting how parents, the family home is the first influencer right for our choices. And then you have school as a complement, right? To the choices that we need to make in life. So you have home and then school and then it progresses to state, right?

So if home does not work, if school does not work, then the state has to step in and it can lead to incarceration. Hope not. But remember, the choice of the state, the choice of the school, the choice of the family, even if not made by you and me, hopefully help transform us right into making better decisions even later on in life. I think for Solana, dada was her first word.

Dada. I was proud, but I think it was the last of the first words she uttered that had to do with me because of rest. After that it was mom, right? And I was completely forgotten.

Think about it. The question can I really choose? Come on, what time did you choose to get up today? Because that is no one else's choice but yours.

Think about it. To get up is not the same as to wake up, okay? In between that is the power of choice. That is where our choice is first tested during the day.

And ask yourself today, how did you exercise that choice between the waking up and the getting up? Again, James Clear reminds us we don't rise to the level of our dreams or goals. We fall flat to the level of our habits. First, and I quote, you make the habit and then the habit makes you.

End quote. Can I really choose? Let me give you 10 choices you made even before you started your day at work or at school. What time to wake up, how soon to get up.

We clarified that, right? What notification to attend to, right? On your phone. To pray or not to pray.

Be honest, however you conceive you got to be what to do with your bed or not to do with your bed. Whom to greet, how to greet, Good morning. What bathroom activity to follow? Did you do your regular routine?

Your initial clothing, and then what to drink, what to eat or what to avoid to eat over breakfast? I just named 10 choices and your day has barely started. It's not just what you choose to do, though, it's how you choose to do what you do. To choose from bad to good, for example, is distinctly different from choosing from good to great.

We all have been making choices and I think the challenge is better understanding why and how to accept not the choice, but both the benefits and the consequences of our choice. See, we like the first and we tend to ignore or refuse to acknowledge the latter. Gusto natanyong beneficial adding magigging decision pero Hindi natan gusto yong consequence. But the reality is, and I quote, you are free to make whatever choice you want, but you are not free from the consequences of your choice.

Anonymous I look at my family, my kids, my wife, you know, amidst school because they're in school. Still church attendance, although they go to different churches. Some sideline businesses that they've gotten into. You know, the kids have made quite unique choices when it comes to their life.

Ella has opted to work in a company as one of the managers in that particular firm. Ella's 25, Donnie, 23. You know Donnie, he's an actor, singer, a social media practitioner. Hannah, who's 22, decided to become a vlogger, but now a podcaster and increasingly as a director.

Such choices. Benjamin is still in school, but now is looking at options for another school to develop his musical talent. Apart from singing, it's also writing and composing. Solana again, apart from school and of course church.

With us, she has her milky business and we are all compelled to be her customers. So far, the only indication we have seen is her desire to become like her. Kuya I don't think I've ever said that, but it's been a privilege, right? And a challenge.

I'm sure you understand guiding them as they go about their choices. My own wife, right, decided, chose not to continue on with show business when we started the family, even as I encouraged her, but just recently has been more active. Congratulations for winning the best supporting actress award at the last Star Awards. It's not really a matter of whether you can choose to do something or not.

We all have been making choices. But what kind of a chooser are you, and how can you make better choices along the way? These things we address in the coming days. May I invite you to choose the journey with me?

I have chosen to journey with you. Let me end with a quote from a mentor, Dr. John Maxwell. I quote, life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you.
