Can Ketones Rescue The Brain From Alzheimer's? | Dr. Stephen Cunnane, Ep.007

from BrainHeal(th)

Today, I am very honored to introduce Dr. Stephen Cunnane. Dr. Cunnane received his PhD from McGill University in 1980, completed post-doctoral research in the UK and Nova Scotia (1980-86), was Professor of Nutritional Sciences at University of Toronto (1986-2003), where he first got interested in ketones in early brain development. He moved to University of Sherbrooke in 2003 to take a Research Chair position and start ketone PET imaging. Dr. Cunnane has published over 350 peer-reviewed research articles and 5 books. He was elected to the French National Academy of Medicine in 2009. In October 2017, he received the Chevreul Medal from the French Society for the Study of Lipids for his exceptional contributions in the field of omega fatty acid metabolism and the role of ketones in optimal brain function during aging. His main focus is on understanding how the brain meets its brain energy requirement during aging and in neurodegenerative disorders. With collaborators, he is now also looking into ketone metabolism by the heart and kidney. Join Dr. Stephen Cunnane as he discusses the potential of ketones as an alternative energy source for the brain in MCI and Alzheimer's patients.
