Can Psilocybin Therapy Help With Suicidal Ideation?
from Entheo Hour · host Entheogen Institute
Can psilocybin therapy help people with chronic suicidal ideation? A study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry in 2026 suggests yes — and it maps directly onto the Oregon and Colorado facilitated models. In this episode of Entheo Hour, Coeli Dwivedi, founder of Entheogen Institute and licensed psilocybin facilitator, shares the details of a landmark Sheppard Pratt study on psilocybin therapy and suicidal ideation, and a story from her own facilitation practice that the research brought back to the surface. The study followed 20 adults with chronic suicidal ideation and treatment-resistant depression through a single supported 25mg psilocybin session with three preparation visits, two trained facilitators present throughout, and three integration sessions afterward. At 12 weeks, 70% reported minimal to no suicidal ideation with no serious adverse events. Coeli breaks down what the results mean for facilitators practicing within the legal regulated model in Oregon and Colorado, where current suicidal ideation is considered a red flag for services — and why this research may be the beginning of a much larger conversation. This is not a conversation about self-guided use. The container matters.
