Can Someone "Explore" Heterosexuality ?

from "I'm Glad You Said That" - Jim Minnery Talks Faith & Politics

Dr. Joseph Nicolosi, Jr really cares about people. All people. You can sense it in his sincerity and passion when he speaks. As a clinical psychologist based in California, Dr. Nicolosi runs the BreakThrough Clinic specializing in drug and alcohol addictions, binge eating, sexual addictions, and many other addiction-related disorders.Reinitegrative Therapy, a form of treatment Nicolosi pioneered, has made national news lately."A new large-scale, peer-reviewed study in the Journal of Human Sexuality demonstrates that sexual attraction fluidity exploration in therapy significantly decreases unwanted sexual behaviors while improving psychological well-being." As one patient commented, “My therapist never tried to get me to change my sexuality, or who I was attracted to, but instead helped me to process traumatic memories from my past that had brought me shame and fear,” said one client, a 30-year-old male with unwanted same-sex attractions. “It was difficult to work through my memories, but after some time, I started noticing my attractions beginning to shift."Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, Dr Nicolosi has come under fire. LGBTQ activists use hard to grasp logic that it's perfectly normal and even commendable to shift from a heterosexual or biologically-based lifestyle to an LGBTQ-affirming lifestyle but are irate and dogmatically opposed to the reality that people might shift the other direction.Nicolosi, with the help of the Thomas More Society, has brought a lawsuit against such activists for making "false and defamatory statements that improperly characterize such voluntary treatments as coercive “conversion therapy,” misleading the public and policy makers on the topic of sexuality change." It's a case in the 9th Circuit parental rights and patient rights proponents should follow closely. I'm honored to sit down with Dr. Nicolosi, Jr and invite you to join us today on "I'm Glad You Said That"Support the show
