Can We Reconcile Admonishment and Unity?

from The Heidi St. John Podcast · host Heidi St. John

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”   Psalm 133:1 ESV We were created to dwell in unity as believers, and the absence of that unity can be painful. Nothing has exposed us more to disunity in recent years than the rhetoric and divisiveness we see in culture right right. When division comes between close friends and family, it can be heartbreaking. Does this mean that we overlook false teaching or unsound doctrine in the name of getting along? Of course not. Paul wrote extensively about the importance of unity in the book of Ephesians. But he also warned the elders of the Ephesian church when he spoke to them in person: “I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore, be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish everyone with tears.” Acts 20:29-31 Can we reconcile admonishment and unity?
