C&SI - Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Limerick's Solemn Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help 2024 - 9 June 2024 (S04E29)

On C&SI podcast land this week we are back into Ordinary time in the liturgical calendar but on this weeks podcast we explore a little what the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus means in the month of June. In addition we are joined by Fr Brian Nolan CSsR who lets us know what is happening this year with Limerick's Solemn Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help.We have our regular run through the liturgical odds and ends for the weeks ahead. Limerick's Solemn Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual HelpFr Brian Nolan talks to us this week about Limerick’s Novena in honour of Our Mother of Perpetual Help which takes place from June 14th to 22nd with 6 sessions each day. The theme of this year’s Novena is “Creating a culture of care following the example of our compassionate God". Through out the novena the times of the various sessions are 7.30am, 10am, 11.30am, 6pm, 7.30pm, and 9pm. Information including poster with the times and the details of the additional special celebrations during the Novena available HERE.June - the month of the Sacred HeartJune is by tradition, the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  Reflecting on the devotion to the Sacred Heart we pause and look again at a devotion, a prayer cycle, a belief which is seen as "traditional" or "antiquated" by many. Something associated with a culture seen as oppressive and burdensome in Ireland? How do we rediscover the essentials again of what is the point of this devotion to the Heart of Jesus? What does it teach and remind us of?Mercy and Love!The Sacred Heart represents Christ's love for all mankind, and our devotion to it is an expression of our faith in His mercy.The devotion especially emphasizes the unmitigated love, compassion, and long-suffering of the heart of Christ towards humanity.The origin of this devotion in its modern form is derived from a French Roman Catholic nun, Marguerite Marie Alacoque, who said she learned the devotion from Jesus during a mystical experience.
