Nella tradizione Buddista coltivare la gentilezza amorevole, la compassione (come risultato della gentilezza amorevole), l’empatia e l’equanimità (considerare tutti gli esseri in modo imparziale) è fonte di incommensurabile felicità. Al concetto di Metta antichi maestri che attinsero ad alcuni discorsi del Buddha dedicarono un canto: il Canto di Metta. Tramite questo canto l’amorevole gentilezza viene irradiata verso tutti gli esseri viventi perché possano vivere in pace e felici. Il Canto di Metta rappresenta una fonte di guarigione del mondo.
