Embankment at Night, before the War: Outcasts D. H. Lawrence This was the Weekly Poem for 20 May 2006. We stretched our poetry-reading muscles with five versions of this much longer selection than usual (some 96 lines), in which D.H. (Summary by LauraFox) Outcast Of The Islands, An by Joseph Conrad (1857 - 1924) LibriVox An Outcast of the Islands is the second novel by Joseph Conrad, published in 1896, inspired by Conrad's experience as mate of a steamer, the Vigar. The novel details the undoing of Peter Willems, a disreputable, immoral man who, on the run from a scandal in Makassar, finds refuge in a hidden native village, only to betray his benefactors over lust for the tribal chief's daughter. This novel was adapted for the screen in 1952 by director Carol Reed, featuring Trevor Howard as Willems, Ralph Richardson as Lingard, Robert Morley, and Wendy Hiller. In this prequel to both "An Outcast of the Islands" and "Almayer's Folly", Tom Lingard, after several years of expensive preparation, is right on the verge of pulling off a noble plan to restore a tribal prince and princess to their rightful realm with the help of native allies through a show of force when he learns that a wealthy and arrogant Englishman has accidentally run his pleasure yacht aground right in the middle of his own proposed field of operations. The yacht owner refuses Lingard's pleas to leave his yacht for a few days to allow Lingard to carry out his plans, and matters soon get even stickier when a gro That Nique Woodhouse Outcast The awkward audio adventures of a specific award winning* comedian/general loser.* = least likely to be a comedian as voted by peers, wyke college, 2003."hilarious maverick on a meteoric rise" - America's The Write Linewww.nique woodhouse.com edian
