Paradoxia: the podcast Rachel Vinciguerra This podcast is about the paradoxes we hold as people—the gray areas, the cognitive dissonance. What does it mean to be a feminist and watch The Bachelor? To be politically-engaged and take time away from the news? Each episode I interview someone about the paradoxes they hold and how they reconcile. ‘Cause “we contain multitudes,” right? The Doctor's Wife by Mary Elizabeth Braddon Loyal Books This is one of the Victorian “Sensationist” Mary Elizabeth Braddon's many novels (best known among them: “Lady Audley’s Secret”). It is extremely well written, fluid, humorous and, in places, self-mocking: one of the main characters is a Sensation Author. The motifs of the-woman-with-a-secret, adultery, and death are classic “sensationist” material. Yet this is also a self-consciously serious work of literature, taking on various social themes of the day. Specifically, Braddon presents the psychological struggle and cognitive dissonance which are the inevitable plight of the married middle-class woman with a strong sense of self, who is essentially constrained to live the life of her husband. In this, it echoes Flaubert’s “Madame Bovary.”The heroine, Isabel Sleaford, was driven early in her childhood to bury herself in, and develop her sense of self through, romantic novels and poetry. She is thus ill-adapted to the conventional, provincial structures and strictures laid upon her when Sense & Solidarity (Sarah Stein Lubrano and Max Haiven) Sarah Stein Lubrano and Max Haiven Led by Sarah Stein Lubrano and Max Haiven, Sense & Solidarity is a platform where people who want to radically change the world can learn together and build individual and collective capacity.Building on Sarah's focus on cognitive dissonance and ideology and Max's focus on social movements and the radical imagination,  Sense & Solidarity aims to create bridges between critical theory and activism and organizing. We produce a podcast, and host in-person and online workshops, organize writing retreats, and otherwise seek to build community and grassroots power. We support the creation of infrastructures of mutual aid for the next generation of radical public intellectuals. The Scientist and His Science: Decoding Chaos Through Music and Process Jack Stamps The Scientist and His Science is my attempt to wrangle the chaos of life into something you can hum—or at least tap your foot to. Each season, I dive into the alchemy of creation, stirring my own struggles and the world’s relentless noise into a cocktail of sound and meaning. It’s a journey where inspiration teases, beauty staggers in late, and harmony sometimes shows up wearing dissonance like a thrift store jacket.
