This week Andy is joined by the returning Fiendish Dr Will to guide us through the myriad worlds of Marvels Cosmic Universe, with a quick dive into the background of Captain Marvel, the Kree, the Skrulls and a cat names Chewie. Culminating in the explosion that turned Carol Danvers into Ms Marvel (even if it did take another 8 years before that was written about!) Avengers (1963) #89-97 – Roy Thomas The Kree-Skrull War – A Mar-Vell story rather than Carol, but likely important groundwork for the film. A confusing culmination of a lot of different plot threads; it is a well regarded storyline Ms Marvel (1977) #1-14 – Chris Claremont & Jim Mooney Carol's first foray as a powered being – dealing with amnesia and split personality, and working for J Jonah Jameson. Uncanny X-Men (1963) #156-167 – Chris Claremont Excellent 80's space adventure with xenomorphs, and Carol's transformation into Binary The Death of Captain Marvel (1982) – Jim Starlin A graphic novel covering the death of Mar-Vell from cancer. Very moving, and covers a lot of ground with reminiscences and flashbacks. Ties into Thanos as well. Ms Marvel (2006) #1-17 – Brian Reed A good taste of who Carol is and what she can do. Captain Marvel (2012) #1-6 – Kelly Sue DeConnick This is where Carol took on the name Captain Marvel, instead of Ms Marvel or Warbird. Captain Marvel (2014) #1-6 – Kelly Sue DeConnick Awesome space adventure stuff Bonus: Ms Marvel (2014) #1-5 – G Willow Wilson When the young Kamala Khan realised she was an Inhuman, Ms Marvel (i.e. Carol) was her inspiration for who to be.
