John, a talented photographer based in Dublin, has overcome anxiety, depression, and psychosis to pursue his passion for photography. Through his lens, he aims to break down stigma surrounding mental health and psychosis and spark conversations that promote understanding and acceptance. John takes us back to the beginning, sharing that his mental health journey started when he was in secondary school. Over the years, he has made tremendous progress and is in a much better place today. His passion for photography has played a crucial role in his recovery, allowing him to capture the beauty of day-to-day life, explore his interests, and address important topics such as mental health and wellbeing. With the support of his Occupational Therapist and the team at Ballyfermot CMHT, John was able to turn his passion into a profession. His OT helped him develop vital skills such as budgeting and time management, enabling him to return to college and study photography. However, John's aspirations go beyond personal growth. He seeks to challenge societal stereotypes and break down the stigma associated with mental health and psychosis. In addition to his photography journey, John shares some exciting personal news—he recently got engaged to his partner and is actively searching for their first home together. Life is moving in a positive direction, and he remains committed to using his art and experience to promote mental health awareness and understanding.
