The carbon price legislation may have passed through parliament, but political uncertainty continues to dog the creation of the new market in Australia. An explosion of new derivatives is expected on the market as a means of hedging risk but, more immediately, Australia has its work cut out to get this new market running and dealing with existing emissions trading schemes. Regulation is just one critical part of the Australian story. With less than eight months to go until trading begins, experts point to the lack of detail on the new Clean Energy Regulator and consider whether a new regulator is even required.
