Sisters and brothers, in the Gospel for the great feasts of Epiphany, we hear a new the journey of the Magi coming from afar to search for the new King of Israel. Yet in the course of their journey, the Magi discover a curious thing. The newborn King is not to be found in the royal city of Jerusalem, but rather in a lowly village. The new King of Israel comes as a stranger in his own land, at first recognized only by those who find themselves on the margins with the infant King.
Today we greet the Son of God as a new-born child, a stranger, a guest, given to us as the humble Savior. The stark humility and poverty embodied in the Christ child shows us how God's glory is manifest in the small things and places of the world. As we contemplate the great mystery of our salvation during this Christmas season, let us learn from the Magi and look for the manifestation of Christ in the small places of the world. The unborn, the marginalized, the sick, the stranger, and the guest.
The light of Christ shines from and in these places, which are often unnoticed even by those of us who seek to be disciples. Therefore, let us be attentive to the soft and radiant light of Christ animating from these small places so that we might find Christ where he truly abides and to him homage. On behalf of myself, Bishop Italo Del Oro and the whole Archdiocese, be assured of our continued prayers for a joy-filled Christmas season and a prosperous new year for you and your families. Merry Christmas!
