Cardinal: If you can't be with mum or grandma, why not say a prayer together on the phone?
from Catholic Church · host Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales
Cardinal Vincent Nichols recorded a short message for mothers on Mothering Sunday and acknowledged how difficult it is this year with self-isolation and social distancing to tackle COVID-19. "It's a real cause of sadness for those who have got their mothers and grandmothers still alive. And they want to get the family together to express how much they love their mum or their grandma. But that's not possible. They can't get together. What we have to do, above all else, is avoid all unnecessary gatherings. So we have to use other means. "We have to create messages for grandma and mum. We have to use the telephone, maybe, and say that we love them and try and find something to be laughing about. And why not say a prayer together down the phone? In that sense, we find new ways of expressing our deepest sentiments of love, affection, respect and honor towards our parents and today, especially, towards our mums."
