Chat to me!

In recent years we have seen so many conversations about award shows.
Every year there is excitement and conversation around the Grammys Reggae category (nominations and winners.) I compare to public outcry when non-Jamaican Reggae band Soja won compared to this year’s winner Kabaka Pyramid.  The idea resurfaces about the Caribbean music industry having our own award shows.

In doing some research, some of our own awards show do exist, but have limited support in terms of marketing, visibility and mass reach. In this episode I discuss the disconnect between what is and what could when it comes to Caribbean Award Shows. By highlighting some of the chatter, I hope to spark some thought around how the Caribbean music industry celebrates our own.

The first generation “Nuyorican” grew up in a musical family, influenced by everything from the sounds of ‘90s R&B and Hip Hop, to the classic bolero music his father would sing & play around the house. This musical upbringing led to a career as an in-demand session singer and live vocalist in New York, working with the likes of the Roots, Shawn Mendes, Lorde, Lisa Lisa and many others. His own music blends R&B, Funk & Hip-Hop with afro-latin rhythms in a style he refers to as “sancochofunk” (sancocho=stew or gumbo); infusing an often tongue-in-cheek lyrical approach with a highly percussive and magnetic stage show. More experiential than merely musical, these vibes are crafted to make you move something.BSKi’s la Cosmic Style Leah Vanderveldt Astrology tools + cosmic timing to help you live the big-ass life you actually want — with your voice, your vibe, and your one-of-a-kind style.Together we’ll sync up with your chart, work your natural gifts, and tap into your zone of genius — for bolder decisions, bigger paychecks, and better outfits.Your host: Leah Vanderveldt is an astrologer, author, tarot mother, and certified moon freak.
