Carleth Keys - Regaining Her Identity & Finding Her Best Self Through Running | RunChats Ep.101

from RunChats with @RonRunsNYC · host Ron Romano

After spending 15 years as a journalist—from print reporter, to newscaster, and finally ascending to a desk anchor at NY1 Noticias—Carleth Keys' identity was firmly entwined with her career. After her family relocated to Madrid from NYC and the job market wasn't lining up, she put her focus on raising her two young boys. During that transition, Carleth lost her identity and it was through running that she restored it, found her mojo, and become the best version of herself. When her video production businesses struggled like so many during the pandemic, Carleth pivoted and started using her tech to begin filming her runs and discovered the world of content creation. I call her the 'Queen of Reels,' and if you check out her IG page, you'll see exactly why! Carleth is super talented and loves to collaborate with brands and others on IG to produce amazing content and share her inspiring running journey. We discuss: her journalism career, losing her identity, regaining it through running, finding content creation, her 1st marathon (NYC), her mentor Wolfie, running for Team for Kids, qualifying for Boston, alternative injury treatments, a no-expectation PR in Chicago, what's next (Berlin & Boston), advocating for moms' self-care, and so much more. She qualified for Boston in only her 2nd marathon and recently ran a totally unexpected PR (3:27:01) at Chicago! What's most impressive, is how hard she had to work to overcome injuries (two torn meniscus in her knees) via alternative treatments including acupuncture with Morningside Acupuncture, a new nutrition plan with On Pace Wellness, a strength plan with Ben Saah, and foam rolling/stretching. I really enjoyed getting to know Carleth better and I know you will, too!
