Carlingford Summer School to Tackle Racism, Identity and Inclusion in a New Ireland - 19/08/2026

How can a new Ireland protect the values it has developed over the past century while also creating a culture where northern unionists and immigrant communities feel included?That will be one of the key questions explored at this year’s Darcy Magee Summer School in Carlingford, which will focus on culture, identity and inclusion, and the growing challenges of racism, xenophobia and anti-immigration violence.The event will bring together academics, politicians, activists and journalists to discuss issues including the ‘Great Replacement’ conspiracy theory, the rise of ethno-nationalism and the challenges of building a more inclusive all-Ireland culture.One of the speakers is Sunday Independent Northern Ireland Editor Sam McBride, who was recently assaulted at a Belfast race riot.
