Carlos Davalos May final

Carlos Davalos, journalist from Mexico City and doctoral candidate at the UW-Madison, has worked to expand Spanish-language programming at WORT, is an active member of the WORT volunteer community and a source for political and cultural information about Mexico. Since he maintains his connection to media and events in Mexico, we called on him to talk about the U.S.-Mexico relationship and recent news emerging from the interactions between the two neighbors. In his interview, Carlos discussed the continuing popularity of President Claudia Sheinbaum, now in her second year in that position; the U.S. indictment of Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya and nine other current and former Mexican officials with drug trafficking, weapons offenses, and kidnapping; the death of unauthorized CIA agents in Mexico; lack of U.S. control of gun smuggling to Mexico; Sheinbaum’s practical response to the illogical U.S. persecution of Cuba and her willingness to host the Iranian soccer team as they prepare for their World Cup matches.
