Carmakers Won’t Fix Headlights & California’s New EV Program

In the past four years, GM and now Tesla have tried to skirt recalls by arguing that illegally bright headlights are "inconsequential" to safety. California's new MyFirstEV program will provide instant rebates of up to $3,500 to first-time EV buyers, backed by $270 million in combined state and automaker funding. Thirteen major automakers—including Tesla, Ford, GM, Toyota, Rivian, and Lucid—have joined the initiative, which is expected to launch later this summer.  After learning her Minnesota assisted-living community could not legally serve drinks at social events, Anita LeBrun, 82, helped change state law. Her successful campaign led to the passage of the "Grandparents' Happy Hour" law, allowing nursing homes and assisted-living facilities to serve alcohol at organized events without a liquor license, helping residents maintain traditions and social connections.
