Carney Seeks Unique EU Alliance | Calgary News

Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney is pushing for a bold new partnership with the EU — not full membership, but a “unique alliance” rooted in shared values and mutual economic strength. As he prepares to speak at the European Parliament, Carney aims to deepen ties with Europe’s largest market amid rising tensions with the U.S., sparking debate at home over sovereignty and national identity. While critics warn of slipping into bloc-like status, both sides are eager to reimagine cooperation beyond traditional frameworks, with key summits scheduled in Strasbourg and October setting the stage for what could be Canada’s most transformative diplomatic move yet.
