Send us Fan MailCarry the CuriosityThis is the final Sourel of The Clearing, and it begins by acknowledging something simple. Whatever this month has actually looked like, however many days went one way or another, arriving here, at this final reflection, is worth pausing on before anything else. This episode deliberately does not ask what has been decided about August. That decision belongs entirely to the listener, and does not need to be made now, or even soon. Instead, it offers a chance to notice what the month has actually given, separate from any decision about what comes next.Looking back to the very first Sourel, the hand reaching for the glass before the mind had decided, this episode traces the curiosity that kept someone listening across discomfort, unevenness, surprising clarity, and the particular difficulty of the final stretch. That noticing, this episode insists, is not nothing. The invitation in this final episode is a single, honest question: What did I learn about myself this month, regardless of what I chose to do with alcohol along the way? The answer might be about the nervous system, about discomfort, about rest or grief or clarity that the month simply gave room to notice. Whatever it is, this episode asks that it be allowed to be enough, exactly as it is.This episode closes The Clearing by naming that curiosity does not have to end simply because the month does, and that it can be carried forward into whatever comes next; however, drinking does or does not take shape afterwards.  If you find yourself wanting something to return to between these reflections, in the actual moment a habit like this one takes hold, I also built an app called Settle and Source. It offers a ninety-second guided practice for exactly the kind of moment this essay has been describing, the gap between noticing an urge and knowing what to do with it. It is not a replacement for anything here, simply another door, in case it is the right one for you. https://settleandsource.comSettle and Source: The Podcast is created by Angela M.
