Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine or Carter USM were a South London band around From 1988 - initially splitting after 10 years in 1998. In that time they achieved a number 1 album, headlined the Glastonbury pyramid stage and sold over a million records. Their sound was a soundscape of energy - layering thrashing guitars over backing tracks of samples, sequenced basses and drum machines. The lyrics were rich in social commentary and loaded with clever wordplay. Their gigs were riot of blinding white light, crowd-surfing mayhem.
