Case File 71-Artificial Intelligence

from ALIEN THEORISTS THEORIZING · host Big Theory Podcasts

The singularity. In Astronomy it is the ultra dense point within a black hole where even light cannot escape making it impossible to see. In the field of Artificial Intelligence the Singularity is the point in the future where scientists are at a loss to predict what will be the outcome when a machine finally becomes truly conscious. Modern movies and literature have played this scenario out a hundred different ways. Robots overthrowing their masters, assimilating organic creatures or unleashing the world’s nuclear armaments to destroy those that the Artificial Super Intelligence deems as threat. But, have these blockbuster movies and science fiction stories obscured our ability to prepare for the impending techpocalypse? Many would simply brush off the idea of a Machine that can think better and faster than a human as a fantasy. A machine could never produce art or think more creatively than their human creators, it’s simply impossible. And yet, every day computer processors are getting smaller and faster. DARPA allocates more than 500 million dollars on departments with research having to do AI. Google, SIRI, Alexa, these are already primitive forms of AI that have made themselves vital fixtures of our everyday lives. What would happen if one of the almost hundred of companies researching AI were to, either intentionally or accidentally, create the proverbial God in a Box? A machine intelligence that could outthink every human on the planet at blinding speeds with no mistakes and no fatigue? Would this alien consciousness so different from our own be indebted to its creators or would it find them a nuisance, an impediment to be removed in it’s path to its own unknowable goals and desires? This case file, join Zel, Dan, and Andrew as they prepare for Judgement Day by confronting the topic of AI.     alientheorists.com  Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/alien-theorists-theorizing/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsOur Sponsors:* Check out Mood and use my code ALIEN for a great deal: https://mood.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
