Casey Mize’s Trade Deadline Crossroads | Detroit Tigers News

Casey Mize is pitching like a Cy Young contender with a 2.70 ERA and 85 strikeouts, but the trade deadline looms—and he’s caught in the middle, unsure if he’ll finish with Detroit or be dealt. Scratched from his last start after a losing streak, he feels let down by circumstances beyond his control. Manager A.J. Hinch admits the deadline brings emotional chaos, especially with the team’s struggles. Meanwhile, Matt Vierling goes on the IL with a groin injury, opening the door for prospect Max Clark to make his debut. Brenan Hanifee was optioned to make room for a lefty, while players like Jackson Jobe and Brant Hurter are rehabbing, and Wenceel Pérez starts his return journey.
