Dickon is good with it and tells Mary that she can count him as a new friend.Mary meets Mr. Craven. Mr. Craven is sad and careworn, but kind. He admits he forgot about her and asks what she needs. Mary boldly asks for a small piece of land to garden. Mr. Craven grants her wish to use any bit of earth she likes on the grounds.
