Iran pledged to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks while negotiations continue. The conditions of the ceasefire remain murky, as Israel continues to attack Lebanon despite claims that Lebanon was included in the agreement. Pope Leo XIV welcomed the ceasefire news as a “sign of hope”, and renewed his call for a prayer vigil for peace at St. Peter’s Basilica this coming Saturday. An order of Catholic nuns has sued to block a New York transgender-rights law that mandates preferred pronoun usage.
