Cease’s Historic Night

Dylan Cease delivered a historic, streaky outing for the Blue Jays, striking out 10 batters to tie Nolan Ryan’s all-time strikeout mark for a pitcher’s first 15 games — but also gave up 4 earned runs, 4 hits, and walked 5, a first in MLB history for that exact stat combo, and exited after just five innings. Despite the loss, his elite season continues to fuel his Cy Young contention, as he leads the AL in strikeouts and remains a cornerstone of Toronto’s pitching future after signing a $210M deal.
