Cedar Square Development Faces Final Push

German Village’s Cedar Square development is back in the spotlight, with revised plans for two smaller three-story buildings offering 50 apartments and 61 parking spots — down from earlier proposals. Developers aim to preserve historic structures while building on a parking lot, tweaking designs — especially the Blenkner Street facade — to blend in. But residents remain fiercely opposed, fearing the project undermines the neighborhood’s human-scale charm vital to its economy. One developer is baffled, recalling similar plans getting thumbs up just last month. Still, a recent commission straw poll shows four out of six commissioners open to approval if further tweaks are made. The battle rages on — developers say they’re compliant with guidelines, while critics worry about scale and fit. The future of German Village’s look is literally on the line.
